Pucker Up with Full, Plump Lips
Remember the days when you could slap on some lip gloss and head out the door? Now, even with lip liner and darker shades of lipstick, you’re still trying to find a way to recapture the full lips of your youth. That’s when lip augmentation may be the right choice for you.
What is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a procedure that creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine lines around the mouth. It can be performed on the upper or lower lips individually, or on both lips.
What to Expect from Lip Augmentation
Augmentation is most commonly achieved by injecting a filler into the lips. Although collagen is the most widely used filler, there are other substances your physician may use. In some cases, fat from another part of your body (such as that extracted during a facelift) may be injected in to the lips. This is known as an autologen injection. There is a small risk of allergic reaction, and a sensitivity test will be performed before the actual procedure is done. Other potential risks include — but are not limited to — redness, swelling, itching or bruising at the injection site.
Where is the Procedure Performed?
Lip augmentation is done in our office or on an outpatient basis and typically requires only local anesthetic. The substance is injected into the appropriate locations in one or both lips with a small needle. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately (or within a day, if procedure is done under sedation).
How Long Can I Expect Results to Last?
Since the substance is eventually absorbed by the body, the duration of the results depends upon the material used.
