Give Your Face a Lift
A facelift (also known as rhytidectomy) doesn’t stop the aging process, but it does help improve visible signs of sagging in the face and neck. Some common reasons men and women have a facelift include:
- Sagging in the midface
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids
- Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
- Fat that has fallen or is displaced
- Loss of muscle tone in the lower face that may have created jowls
- Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw – making a normal weight person appear to have a double chin
Facelifts can be performed both surgically and non-surgically with alternative methods like Botox®, Juvederm®, Voluma® and Ultherapy. If you have a surgical facelift, they are often performed in conjunction with a browlift to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow. Eyelid surgery is also common to rejuvenate aging eyes.
What to Expect from a Facelift
Surgical facelifts are performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the degree of change you’d like to see, your facelift choices include a traditional facelift, a limited incision facelift or a neck lift. A traditional facelift incision often begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and ends at the lower scalp. A limited incision lift uses shorter incisions at the temples and continues around the ear; it also may include incisions within the lower eyelid and the upper lip.
A neck lift is often used for those with sagging jowls and loose neck skin. The incision for a neck lift begins in front of the ear lobe and wraps around behind the ear ending in the lower scalp. All incision lines — regardless of the type of lift you choose — are well concealed within the hairline or in the natural contours of your face and ear once healed.
Will I Need Help After My Facelift?
If you have a surgical facelift done as an outpatient procedure, be sure to have someone on-site to help drive you to and from the surgery. You will also want them to stay with you for a least the first night following the surgery.
What is a Liquid Facelift?
Botox®, Juvederm® and Voluma® all can be used to create a “liquid facelift” – a nonsurgical alternative that contours, sculpts and lifts areas of the face to make you look younger.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Visible results of a facelift will appear as swelling and bruising fades. Your final results should give you a more youthful, rested appearance as well as added confidence about yourself.
