What to Expect with Buttocks Liposuction

Typically, your physician will mark the area on your buttocks and thighs you have discussed being sculpted. You will then be placed under general anesthesia – putting you completely to sleep – or a local anesthesia where only the area being worked on is numb.

To remove fat from the buttocks, a small incision will be made in an inconspicuous place or along the natural contours of your body. A small tube called a cannula is then inserted beneath the skin and fat is sucked out through the tube. Tumescent fluid is often used to help expand the tissues and make the process of removing the fat easier.

The tunnels where fat has been removed will gradually collapse and become smaller. This could take three to six weeks after the procedure before you really start noticing a difference. Over the next three to six months, the appearance of your newly sculpted buttocks will progressively improve. You may be asked to wear special compression garments to help aid this process. This is a long-term solution as fat is permanently removed from the buttocks. However, it is important to remember that fat can be gained back in this area so proper diet and exercise are essential as you move forward.
